«Η Γιαγιά μου η Κυριακού» ξανά στο Δημοτικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας στις 18 & 19 Μαρτίου 2026
Το documentary theatre «Η γιαγιά μου η Κυριακού», μια συμπαραγωγή του Διεθνούς Φεστιβάλ Λευκωσίας 2025 με τον Δήμο Παραλιμνίου επιστρέφει στο Δημοτικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας στις 18 και 19 Μαρτίου 2026, ώρα 20:30.
H Nicosia For Art περήφανα παρουσιάζει την παράσταση που άφησε τις καλύτερες εντυπώσεις για τη ζωή της Κυριακούς Πελαγία, της μαστόρισσας του κυπριακού τραγουδιού και της μουσικής παράδοσης της Κύπρου, μέσα από τα μάτια της εγγονής της Ειρήνης Πελαγία, η οποία ανέλαβε τη μουσική διεύθυνση της παράστασης.
Πρόκειται για ένα θεατρικό έργο του Ανδρέα Νικολαΐδη και σκηνοθεσία του Κλείτου Κλείτου. Η ζωή της Κυριακούς δεν παρουσιάζεται ως βιογραφία, αλλά ως συλλογική ανάμνηση, ως μνήμη, ως φωνή που μας καλεί να χορέψουμε, να πονέσουμε και να γιορτάσουμε, με την αρχοντιά, την περηφάνια, αλλά και τη μαγκιά ενός τίμιου ανθρώπου, που ξεκίνησε να γράφει και να τραγουδά την παράδοση σε ώριμη ηλικία, στα 60 της χρόνια, εμπνέοντας ακόμη και τις νεότερες γενιές.
Θέατρο ντοκιμαντέρ
Το θέατρο ντοκιμαντέρ (documentary theatre) γνωρίζει ολοένα και αυξανόμενη δημοτικότητα τα τελευταία χρόνια σε όλη την Ευρώπη. Πρόκειται για ένα είδος που ανανεώνει ριζικά τη σχέση θεάτρου και πραγματικότητας, τέχνης και ζωής, μυθοπλασίας και τεκμηρίωσης, αφού χρησιμοποιεί εξ ολοκλήρου ή αποσπασματικά ντοκουμέντα, όπως εφημερίδες, συνεντεύξεις και άλλα, ως πηγή υλικού για το θεατρικό κείμενο. Όταν μάλιστα κατασκευάζεται από τα ακριβή λόγια που έχουν ειπωθεί από ανθρώπους σε συνεντεύξεις ή μαρτυρίες, είναι πιο συγκεκριμένα γνωστό και ως Αυτολεξεί Θέατρο (verbatim theatre).

“My Grandmother Kyriakou” returns to the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on 18 & 19 March 2026
The documentary theatre piece “My Grandmother Kyriakou”, a co-production of the 2025 Nicosia International Festival and the Municipality of Paralimni, returns to the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on 18 and 19 March 2026.
Nicosia For Art proudly presents the acclaimed production that left a strong impression as it explored the life of Kyriakou Pelagia, a master of Cypriot song and musical tradition, through the eyes of her granddaughter, Irini Pelagia, who also served as the production’s music director.
Written by Andreas Nicolaides and directed by Kleitos Kleitos, the play does not present Kyriakou’s life as a conventional biography, but as a collective memory - as remembrance, as a voice inviting us to dance, ache, and celebrate - with the dignity, pride, and boldness of an honest woman who began writing and performing traditional music later in life, at the age of 60, inspiring even younger generations.
Documentary theatre
Documentary theatre has been gaining increasing popularity across Europe in recent years. It is a genre that radically revitalises the relationship between theatre and reality, art and life, fiction and documentation, as it uses entire or partial pieces of material such as newspapers, interviews, and more, as the source for the theatrical script. All the more so when it is constructed from the exact words spoken by people in interviews or testimonies, it is more specifically known as verbatim theatre.
