Release Athens 2026 welcomes Sabaton on Saturday July 25th at Plateia Nerou. The Swedes, stronger than ever, will close the festival, four years after their first appearance in the same venue. They will be joined by Savatage, who are returning to Athens after many years and will be the ideal co-headliners in a line-up rounded out by Epica, who are so beloved in our country for their symphonic metal.
Since their formation over 25 years ago, Sabaton have headlined major festivals, filled stadiums and won over a legion of loyal fans around the world.
From their debut album in 2005 to the present day, they have released a series of chart-topping albums that have sold millions of copies and proven that power metal can be both educational and exciting. They have turned historical battles and heroic moments into metal anthems.
They are now preparing for another huge tour, having just released Legends, their 11th album. With these stories, they will return to Plateia Nerou for another explosive journey through time.

Savatage are one of the most innovative and influential bands on the American metal scene. Formed by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva in Florida in the early 1980s, the band redefined the boundaries of heavy metal. With albums like "Hall of the Mountain King", "Gutter Ballet" and "Streets: A Rock Opera”, they truly defined the progressive metal genre.
Following the tragic loss of Criss Oliva in 1993, the band's creative momentum continued with masterpieces such as “Dead Winter Dead” and “The Wake of Magellan”, leaving behind a rich legacy that has influenced countless bands.
